Wednesday, March 2 is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of the season of Lent. While our tradition of penitential practices has led many to see it as a burden, it is so much more than that, perhaps a particular gift in these unsettled times. The word "Lent" comes from an Old English word which meant "spring". A season of new life and preparation - in the case of Christians, for a renewal of our faith at Easter.
